Rhys Okafor, Sixth Form Student

Rhys Okafor is a Year 13 student taking A-levels in Computer Science, Maths and Business Studies, two years into a part-time supermarket job after a week of IT work experience, and is applying for a part-time IT support role alongside school. An employer hiring a student for a first IT job wants proof of reliability and a real interest in the work, so the page sets the paid job and the work experience side by side and names what he fixed.

Why this resume works

  • The profile states the hours he can work, up to 12 a week, so a manager can see straight away whether the rota fits.
  • Qualifications list the A-level subjects with predicted grades and the GCSE range in one table, the year at the right margin of each.
  • The work experience week is counted in results: 18 laptops imaged and set up for a client moving office.
  • The supermarket job gives a customer count, around 120 a shift, and the 45-minute order-picking window it is held to.
  • Further Details is a section he added, holding his IT skills and two Duke of Edinburgh awards as labelled lines under the same navy-ruled heading.

Ethan Brooks is a Year 11 leaver in Leeds with his GCSE results just in and a year of Saturday work behind him, applying for a finance apprenticeship. A finance employer hiring at sixteen reads for grades in maths, evidence of handling money, and signs of reliability, so this resume puts the grade 9s at the top of the education section, gives the till and the stock count a line each, and uses an added section for the football and the fundraising that show he turns up and leads.

Why this resume works

  • The profile names the goal, a finance apprenticeship, in its first sentence and backs it with the grade 9 in Maths and Economics in its second.
  • The GCSE entry lists the grades by band, grade 9 first, so the two subjects a finance employer checks are read before the rest.
  • The Saturday job counts around 200 customers a shift and a third fewer out-of-stock lines, which is the only paid work on the page and is written as results.
  • Clubs and responsibilities is a second education entry, holding the maths club, the school council and the charity committee treasurer post.
  • Additional is a section the writer added under the same orange band, holding the football captaincy, a cup win and a sponsored walk that raised £1,240.

A student resume is read for evidence of reliability and responsibility rather than for a career, so this one gives the theatre job real numbers, keeps the diploma to one line, and shapes the club presidency like a job.

Why this resume works

  • The profile names the two things a manager hiring a student wants first, a Saturday night rush and a POS system, before any section is read.
  • The server role carries figures a floor manager recognises, 90 guests a shift, orders timed to the intervals and a 96% satisfaction score, rather than a list of duties.
  • The diploma in progress is one bold line over the school, the city and the dates, which is the honest weight for an education that has not finished.
  • One award, the customer service award with the venue and the month, has a section of its own so it is not buried in a role.
  • Leadership Experience is a section of her own shaped like a role, the presidency in bold over the school and the dates, with a cast of 30, a $4,200 budget and $3,100 raised in its bullets.

Isla Fernandes is a Year 13 student with a Saturday job, a volunteering stint and two positions of responsibility at school, applying for a summer placement in a finance office alongside her university applications. The resume is written for a reader who has never seen a school leaver CV and wants to know what she has actually done.

Why this resume works

  • The summary gives the subjects, the predicted grades and the two roles held at school in one paragraph, before any section is read.
  • Leadership positions get their own section with a role, a place and dates for each, treated exactly as a job would be.
  • Education lists the predicted grades and the extended project as separate lines, so the academic record reads without a transcript.
  • The Saturday job and the food bank volunteering are described in one sentence each, which is honest about their scale while still naming the duties.
