About the Modern cover letter template

Modern splits the page vertically: a third of the width is a filled sidebar holding your name and contact details, and the letter runs beside it. It is the closest of the letter templates to a two-column resume.

How it is built

  • The sidebar takes 32% of the page width and is filled with your accent colour, with white text throughout.
  • The name stacks over two lines in the sidebar, and contact details stack beneath it rather than running inline.
  • The letter body occupies the remaining column and never wraps under the sidebar.
