  • Accessibility audits
  • CI pipelines and releases
  • Plain written handovers

Profile

Web developer with five years across agency client sites and one retail storefront, comfortable from the database to the pixel. I build in TypeScript and React on a Node back end, measure what I ship with Lighthouse and real-user timings, and would rather delete a dependency than add one. Most of my best work has been making a slow page fast and a confusing checkout plain.

Experience

Web Developer

Cascade Outfitters, Portland

Mar 2024 – Present

  • Own the storefront for a 6,000-product outdoor-gear catalogue, built in Next.js on a headless commerce API.
  • Rebuilt the checkout as four steps instead of nine, which lifted completed orders on mobile by 18% in a quarter.
  • Cut the product page from 3.4 to 1.2 seconds to largest contentful paint by moving images to a CDN and lazy-loading reviews.
  • Run the weekly release, the error budget and the on-call rota for a team of three developers.

Front-End Developer

Brightwater Studio, Portland

Sep 2022 – Feb 2024

  • Built the front end of eleven client sites in React and Sanity, from the design handover to launch day.
  • Wrote the studio component library, 40 documented parts that every project since has started from.
  • Took every site through an accessibility pass before launch and closed the audit findings on all eleven.

Junior Web Developer

Riverbend Digital, Eugene

Jan 2021 – Aug 2022

  • Maintained 30 small-business WordPress sites, handling updates, content changes and the monthly uptime report.
  • Moved the agency booking forms from a plugin to a small Node service, which ended the double-booking tickets.
  • Wrote the internal guide to the deployment steps that the next two hires learned the job from.

Projects

Trailhead Weather
A free forecast page for 200 Oregon trailheads, built on the NOAA API with 9,000 visits a month.

Gearlist
An open-source packing-list app in React Native, 1,400 downloads and 30 merged pull requests from other contributors.

About the Pebble template

Pebble is a page of pale grey paper with a band a step darker across its head. The name sits on the band in wide spaced capitals, the first name light and the surname bold, with the job title in small spaced capitals beneath, and a round portrait on the right hangs a quarter of its height below the band onto the page. Under the head a thin grey line runs straight down the page a third of the way across. The narrow column left of it opens on the contact details beside small dark icons and continues with the skills and the qualifications, and each of those sections is opened by a horizontal rule that runs out to the centre line and meets it at a small open ring, so the narrow column reads as a ladder of rungs. The wide column right of the line carries the profile, the work history and any section the writer adds, with no rules at all. Every heading, added sections included, is wide spaced bold capitals in the ink with nothing drawn under it. A role is its title in small spaced capitals over the employer and city in a lighter line, then the dates, then bullets; a degree is the award in the same capitals with its field after a colon, then the school and city, then the years. Skills are a bulleted list of plain names. One charcoal ink does the name, the headings and the wash on the band, so recolouring it recolours the whole page at once. It suits a developer, a designer or anyone in a technical field who wants a quiet page that still has a shape.

  • A round portrait at the right of the band that hangs a quarter of its height below it onto the page
  • One thin grey line down the page a third of the way across, with a horizontal rule opening every section in the narrow column that runs out to the line and meets it at a small open ring
  • Every heading as wide spaced bold capitals in the ink with nothing drawn under it, a section the writer adds included, and no rules anywhere in the wide column
  • A role as its title in small spaced capitals over the employer and city in a lighter line, then the dates on a line of their own, then bullets
  • A degree as the award in small spaced capitals with its field after a colon, then the school and city, then the years
